Proposed District: Green Street (east)
The Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC) agree:
a small group of buildings along the Eastern end of Green Street, from Brookside Avenue to Greenley Place, are eligible to become a National Register District due to its commercial history.
The proposed district includes two commercial stables and two carriage factories that are rare extant examples in the City of Boston. The district also includes a paint shop that supported the carriage manufacturing, mixed-use buildings, two large “apartment hotels” that housed the types of skilled workers employed by the nearby businesses, and the single-family dwelling at 190 Green Street (ca. 1844) adjacent to the Papineau Livery Stable.

Benefits
Designation as a National Register District is a great honor that provides many benefits, including recognition of the importance of buildings in the district.
A renovation of a building in the district could be eligible for Federal or State historic tax credits.
A National Register District is NOT a City of Boston Design Overlay District or a Boston Landmark District and, by itself, is not subject to any of their restrictions.
